captured on April 3,1865. Paroled on May 4,1865. Took the Oath of Allegiance on July 15,1865.(North Carolina records indicate he was wounded in the left hip at Sharpsburg, Maryland on an unspecified date and wounded near Richmond during the Battle of the Seven days.) Write up in The Fayetteville Observer, Fayetteville, NC (Newspaper) Thursday, March 21, 1929. "Death claimed J.F.Arnett, one of the oldest, if not the oldest Confederate Veteran in Cumberland County and one of the oldest in the South. He volunteered for service at the start of the Civil War and served throughout the conflict between the states receiving four wounds. " His tombstone reads: John Frank Arnett Co. D - C.S.A. Dec. 25, 1831 - March 21, 1929. |
