ARNETT, Henry Co Batty B, 2nd NC Lt. Artillery Enlisted 9-24-63 at Pitt Co, NC.  Private, resides Cumberland Co, NC.  Transferred 11-4-63 to Co B, 13th NC Battalion Light Artillery.  Died 2-2-65 of pneumonia at Raleigh, NC.  Also served Co B, 36th NC Infantry.  See Oakwood Confederate Cemetery for burial data.
ARNETT, John F. Co D, 43rd NC Infantry Born in Cumberland County, where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Cumberland County, at age 18.-Feb. 16,1862. Present or accounted for until wounded in the shoulder at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3,1863. Returned to duty prior to Sept. 1, 1863. Present or accounted for until wounded in the little toe and/or right thigh at or near Petersburg, Virginia. on or about March 25, 1865. Hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia where he was captured on April 3,1865. Paroled on May 4,1865. Took the Oath of Allegiance on July 15,1865.(North Carolina records indicate he was wounded in the left hip at Sharpsburg, Maryland on an unspecified date and wounded near Richmond during the Battle of the Seven days.) 
Write up in The Fayetteville Observer, Fayetteville, NC (Newspaper) Thursday, March 21, 1929. "Death claimed J.F.Arnett, one of the oldest, if not the oldest Confederate Veteran in Cumberland County and one of the oldest in the South. He volunteered for service at the start of the Civil War and served throughout the conflict between the states receiving four wounds. "
